Despite the US insisting over a four and a half-year period that President Assad must step down before any negotiation could be started, John Kerry said recently that the US will sit down with Russia and Iran to discuss a political solution to Syria that doesn’t involve president Assad stepping down straight away.
This is what Russia offered way back in 2012 when there still was a functioning Syria:

Meanwhile another base (Abu al-Duhur) has fallen to Jaish al Fatah (Army of Conquest) coalition and executed the remaining government soldiers.
This coalition of groups consist of Jabhat Al Nusra and other fundamentalist Islamic groups. This coalition of groups are openly sponsored by Saudi Arabia & Qatar (both are regional ‘partners’ to the West).
