Escalated Russian Involvement in Syria

Personal View:

Assad is struggling this year and it would seem that Putin is deciding to take the situation by the scruff of the neck to protect Russia’s interests and use the IS (and the rest of the many fundamentalist groups) problem as leverage.

It is widely accepted that the Syrian Arab Army (and associated militias) only control about a third of Syria currently.

This is no different to how the West operates, he’s playing the West at their own game.
