Fast forward to 50:00 minutes onward to hear Ashton Carter confirm that US trained moderate deemed groups have not been targeted by Russian and Syrian air force, to John McCain’s dismay.
This is despite a flurry of main stream media outlets and politicians claiming that US trained forces had been bombarded by Syrian and Russian air forces.
It just goes to show that what politicians and main stream media say is not always the case. Often the reality is twisted or skewed to suit an on going narrative to the public.
Main stream media reports stating that CIA trained rebels had been targeted:
- Independant article (01 Oct 2015) – Russia in Syria: Russian warplanes ‘attack CIA-backed Syrian rebel groups’ in second day of bombing:
Quote: “US Senator John McCain has also said Russia is attacking US-backed rebels, telling CNN: “I can absolutely confirm to you that there were strikes against the Free Syrian Army or groups that have been armed and trained by the CIA because we have communication with people there.”
Quote: “Hassan Haj Ali, head of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group that is part of the Free Syrian Army, told Reuters one of the targets was his group’s base in Idlib province, struck by about 20 missiles in two separate raids. His fighters had been trained by the CIA in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, part of a program Washington says is aimed at supporting groups that oppose both Islamic State and Assad.”
Quote: “Two of Thursday’s sorties were against a rebel group trained by the CIA, its commander said.
Hassan Haj Ali, of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal group, told Reuters news agency that about 20 missiles had hit their training camp in Idlib province.
He said the Russian jets were identified by former Syrian air force pilots who are now members of his group.”
- ABC News article (01 Oct 2015) – Russia bombs group in Syria trained by CIA; Iranian ground troops deployed to join war:
Quote: “Russian warplanes have bombed a camp run by rebels trained by the CIA in their second day of strikes, putting Moscow and Washington on opposing sides in a Middle East conflict for the first time since the Cold War.”
Quote: “Hassan Haj Ali, head of the Liwa Suqour al-Jabal rebel group which is part of the Free Syrian Army, said one of the targets was his group’s base in Idlib province, struck by around 20 missiles in two separate raids.”
“His fighters had been trained by the CIA in Qatar and Saudi Arabia, part of a program Washington says is aimed at supporting groups that oppose both Islamic State and Assad.”
“Russia is challenging everyone and saying there is no alternative to Bashar,” Haj Ali said. He said the Russian jets had been identified by members of his group who once served as Syrian air force pilots.”
Either the opposition group commander’s men claiming they were attacked by Russian jets are mistaken, John McCain’s quote to CNN is a lie or Ashton Carter is ill informed?
