UN Human Rights Council releases report on deaths in detention, Syria

The UN Human Rights Council has released a report on the 08 February 2016 regarding the alleged systemic violence and killing of detainees while in the custody of warring factions in Syria, with a particular focus on the Syrian government.

The report also includes the same indictments for Jabhat al Nusrah (al Qaeda in Syria), IS and ‘some anti government armed groups’ though it is unclear who these groups are.

It gives a bleak insight into the fate for many detainees who faced death by torture, terrible living conditions and extra judicial executions between 10 March 2011 and 30 November 2015.

The report states that such actions amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.
